On behalf of The Friends of the Haven, a 501 ( c ) (3) public charity in support of the Haven, we are encouraging you to consider the Haven in your year-end gifting. As you may be aware, The Haven is a vitally important program within the Addiction Research and Treatment Services [ARTS] organization, serving women who are addicted to drugs, and in many cases serving their infant children as well. Services are intensive and comprehensive, targeting chronic substance addiction and the constellation of problems associated with addiction, including physical illness, homelessness, mental illness, and inadequate education and job skills.

The Haven is an indispensable community resource. This program has been demonstrated to be highly cost-effective, ‘getting lives back on track’ and teaching parenting skills. The Colorado Division of Criminal Justice reported in 2006 that The Haven had the lowest level of recidivism 12 and 24 months following discharge of any community corrections program in this state.

Community corrections is only one of several key referral sources for The Haven, however. Women who are homeless, many with infants, are admitted to The Haven, as are women who are on Medicaid because they are pregnant, or on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Regardless of the referral source, the outcomes are identical: Lives and health are restored and the cycle of addiction is permanently interrupted.

We thank you for your previous support and ask that you consider the Haven in your year-end gifting. Please make any checks payable to Friends of the Haven and mail to the below address. If you desire, checks in amount of $200 or more made to the “Baby Haven” will qualify for a 50% state income tax credit on your Colorado tax return as well as the Federal Income Tax charitable deduction. Baby Haven funds will go to operation of the childcare facility for the infant children at the Haven. Mail checks to PO Box 102375 • Denver, CO • 80250.

Thank you,
Bill Winn
