Thank you for your much appreciated past support throughout the last year. Friends of the Haven has had another meaningful and productive year in 2016 with substantial accomplishment and growth. I’d like to share a few of the highlights…
· We are fortunate that Julianna Nelson joined us at the first of the year as our Development Manager and has recently been promoted to Executive Director. Julianna is passionate about our mission and the success and well being of our families. She is dedicated to building relationships with all of you, who are so dedicated to supporting the women and children at the Haven and Baby Haven. She is proving to be a great asset to our work. You can expect to hear more from her in coming months.
· Thanks to a substantial grant from the Daniels Fund, we have successfully renovated one of the old, unoccupied houses on the Ft. Logan campus and renamed it the “Lighthouse”. The Lighthouse is a new transition house for women and their children who are completing residential treatment and reengaging with the community. Thanks to Wellshire Presbyterian for their generous contribution to the furnishings for the “giggle room”. We will host an open house in late November to reveal the gorgeous renovation. Watch your mailboxes for the open house invitation!
· We continue with our primary work, which is funding of the Haven/Baby Haven programs, Treatment Scholarships and the Educational Endowment for Academic scholarships. Without your generous donations, these programs would not be able to continue to do the incredible work with our families, breaking the cycle of addiction and poverty.
With Julianna’s help we are expanding our reach and activities to develop a community network of support resources for women in recovery. These community partners include low income housing, employment, transportation, mental health, recovery support, peer support, family resource centers and others. A substance use disorder (addiction) is a chronic disease and without support, people will at some point relapse. Ongoing support while in recovery is nationally a major unfunded gap in the continuum of treatment and recovery. Friends of the Haven looks forward to being a part of this critical continued support and strengthening of our families.
As we approach end of the year, please consider us in your end of the year gifting plans. Your continued support has been instrumental in our accomplishments and will be critical in our growing help for the moms and babies of the Haven.
With much appreciation,
Bill Winn, President
