Karen Chappelow


Ms. Chappelow
has been the Associate Director of the Haven and the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility TC since April 2005. Prior to that she worked at Arapahoe House as the Team Supervisor of the Female Substance Abusing Offender Program and at the New Directions for Families program in several different roles including Primary Counselor, Continuing Care Coordinator/Clinician and Trauma Specialist. During her employment with the New Directions program she was instrumental in developing and implementing the trauma intervention for the Women, Co-Occurring Disorders and Violence project and participated in numerous national and state Substance Abuse, Mental Health and Trauma associations and committees. In 1999 she was named Employee of the Year. She was also the Shelter Director for the Women’s Crisis Center in Douglas County for 2 years. Karen has worked in the field since 1992. Her experience includes working with substance abuse, dual disorders, criminal justice, domestic violence, and trauma in both a residential and out patient setting as a Clinician as well as an Administrator. Karen is a Certified Addictions Counselor Level III and a Certified Trauma Specialist, as well as being in recovery for 16 years. These life and work experiences have inspired Karen’s work and her passion to help women improve the quality of their lives.
